Creator monetization calculator: how many buyers do you need?

Creator monetization & income 7 min read + calculator

The number of buyers you need equals your target net revenue divided by your net revenue per buyer. Set your monthly goal and your price below, and the calculator shows the buyer count instantly — with an optional fee percentage and audience size to see the implied conversion rate. Every formula is also written out below in plain text, and the example underneath uses real numbers even without JavaScript.

How many buyers do you need?

Set your monthly revenue goal and your average price per buyer.

Payment processor, platform or marketplace fee, if any.

If provided, shows the conversion rate your goal implies.

Buyers required

20

Gross transaction value: €1,000

For €1,000 net, at €50 per buyer

Gross transaction value before any fee. "Buyers required" already accounts for the fee percentage you set. Taxes are never included — budget separately.

The formulas

Written out in plain text so the logic is visible with or without JavaScript, and so it's yours to reuse in a spreadsheet:

net revenue per buyer = price × (1 − fee%)

buyers required = target net revenue ÷ net revenue per buyer

gross transaction value = buyers required × price

If audience size is supplied:

required conversion rate = buyers required ÷ reachable audience × 100

"Reachable audience" means the realistic number of people who could plausibly see and act on the offer — usually smaller than your total follower count. Using total followers instead of a realistic reach estimate will understate the true conversion rate you need.

Worked example

Target: €5,000 net per month. Price: €100 per buyer. No fee assumed.

  • Net revenue per buyer = €100 × (1 − 0) = €100
  • Buyers required = €5,000 ÷ €100 = 50 buyers
  • Gross transaction value = 50 × €100 = €5,000

If this creator has a realistic reachable audience of 20,000 people: required conversion rate = 50 ÷ 20,000 × 100 = 0.25%. Whether that's realistic depends on trust and buying intent, not on the arithmetic — see how many followers you need for that half of the question.

PayDM-specific example

This example is specific to PayDM's paid-questions mechanics and is not a general default — toggle "Use PayDM's standard 80% creator payout" above to see it live. PayDM credits a standard 80% of the message price to the creator's balance (a separate buyer-side service fee is added at checkout and does not come out of that share). If a creator's target is €1,000 net and the price per paid question is €50:

  • Net revenue per buyer = €50 × 0.80 = €40
  • Buyers required = €1,000 ÷ €40 = 25 paid questions

This is a mechanics illustration of the payout rate, not a claim about typical monthly question volume. See how PayDM works for the full flow and the current reply window.

Gross vs. net — what's not included

"Gross transaction value" is the total amount paid by buyers. "Net revenue per buyer" in this calculator only subtracts the fee percentage you enter — it does not include taxes, which vary by country and personal situation and are never estimated on this page. It also doesn't include your fulfillment time: if your price includes real work (a consultation, a written answer, a review), the buyer count above tells you volume, not how many hours that volume will take.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator include taxes?

No. Tax rates vary too much by country and personal situation to estimate responsibly here. Budget for tax separately from the net figures shown.

What audience number should I use?

A realistic estimate of people who would actually see the offer and could act on it — not your total follower count, which usually overstates reach.

Is the PayDM toggle required to use the calculator?

No — it's optional and only relevant if you're modelling a PayDM paid-questions scenario specifically. The default calculator works for any platform or payment method; just enter your own fee percentage.

Why does the calculator show a conversion rate only sometimes?

Audience size is optional. Without it, the calculator can tell you how many buyers you need, but not what fraction of your audience that represents.
