Stan Store alternatives for creators in 2026
The right Stan Store alternative depends on why Stan no longer fits. If the $29 monthly fee is too much for low sales, a percentage-fee tool such as Gumroad, Beacons Free or Ko-fi costs less until sales grow. If you want sales tax handled for you, Gumroad acts as Merchant of Record. If you need a deeper community, a community platform fits better; if you want your own domain, Beacons Creator Plus, Podia or your own site can do it. If none of those reasons apply, staying on Stan is often the right call.
Short answer
- Cheapest at low sales
- A percentage-fee tool (Gumroad, Beacons Free, Ko-fi), because you pay nothing until you sell.
- Cheapest at steady sales
- Often Stan itself, or another flat-fee plan, because a 0% platform fee stops growing with revenue.
- Tax handled for you
- Gumroad, which states it is the Merchant of Record for all sales.
- Not a Stan replacement
- Tip pages, community software and paid-question tools each cover one job Stan does, not the whole storefront.
What Stan does now, and what it costs
Checked on Stan's help pages on 5 October 2026:
- Plans: Creator at $29/month or $300/year; Creator Pro at $99/month or $948/year. There is no free plan (Creator vs Creator Pro).
- Fees: Stan states it earns 0% from transactions; Stripe or PayPal processing applies separately. For US Stripe payments Stan lists 2.9% + $0.30, with extra charges for international cards and currency conversion (Stan, Stripe and PayPal fees).
- Creator includes: a storefront, calendar and booking tools, store and product analytics, an unlimited course builder, recurring subscriptions, lead magnets and email collection, community features and AutoDM for Instagram.
- Creator Pro adds: discount codes, limited-quantity offers, upsells and order bumps, Afterpay and Klarna, funnels, affiliate management, contact import, email broadcasts and flows, and ad-pixel tracking.
- Domain: the store lives at stan.store/yourusername; Stan says you cannot use a custom domain, only redirect one to it.
Reasons to stay on Stan
- Your sales are steady. With a 0% Stan fee, every extra sale costs only processing. Percentage-fee alternatives cost more as you grow.
- You use several Stan features together: products, a course, bookings and email capture in one link. Rebuilding that across tools adds cost and work.
- Your funnel works. A converting checkout is worth more than a small fee saving; migrations temporarily break links and habits.
- Your problem is not the tool. If sales are low because demand or distribution is weak, a cheaper store will not fix that.
Why are you switching? A matrix
| Switch reason | What to look for | Alternatives to evaluate | Before you switch |
|---|---|---|---|
| $29/month is too much for current sales | No base fee; pay per sale | Gumroad, Beacons Free, Ko-fi shop | Check the crossover: above it, percentage fees cost more |
| Prefer paying a percentage over a subscription | Percentage-only fee model | Gumroad, Beacons Free | Fixed per-sale fees hurt low-priced items |
| Want sales tax handled | A Merchant of Record | Gumroad | Its fee is higher; you are buying less tax admin |
| Need a deeper community | Spaces, events, member management | Community platforms | Stan Creator already lists community features; check whether they are enough |
| Want courses, website and email in one | An all-in-one creator site | Podia | Compare with Stan Creator Pro, which adds email flows and funnels |
| Need your own domain | Custom-domain support | Beacons Creator Plus, Podia, your own site | A domain redirect to Stan may be enough |
| Selling simple digital products only | A lighter store | Gumroad, Ko-fi or Buy Me a Coffee shop | You lose bookings and courses in one place |
| Mostly accepting support, not selling | Tips and memberships | Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee | Support pages are not storefronts |
| Selling one-off personal expertise | One bounded paid interaction | Paid-question or paid-call tools | This sits next to a store; it does not replace one |
Alternatives by job
Facts checked on each vendor's own pages on 5 October 2026. Payment processing is separate unless stated.
Gumroad: pay per sale, with tax handled
No monthly fee. Gumroad charges 10% + $0.50 per sale through your profile or direct links, plus card processing (2.9% + $0.30) or PayPal fees; sales to new customers through its Discover marketplace cost a flat 30%, processing included (Gumroad's fees). It states it is the Merchant of Record for all sales, handling sales-tax collection and remittance. Fits: digital products with uncertain volume, or sellers who want tax admin off their plate. Not for: booking calendars. Its own trade-offs are covered in Gumroad alternatives, and the product workflow in how to sell digital products.
Beacons: a creator hub with a percentage or a flat fee
A link page, store and email tool in one. Per Beacons' pricing page: Free with a 9% fee, Creator at $10/month with a 9% fee, and Creator Plus at $30/month with 0% and memberships. Fits: creators who want a hub like Stan but start on a free plan. Not for: creators who need Stan-level course and booking tools on the cheapest plan; check feature parity first.
Podia: courses, downloads, website and community
Mover $49/month ($42/month billed annually) with a 5% Podia fee; Shaker $99/month ($84/month annually) with no Podia fee; processors charge separately (Podia pricing). All plans list community, courses, downloads, coaching, events, a website and a custom domain. Fits: creators outgrowing a bio-link store who want a full site. Not for: anyone switching to save money at low sales.
Ko-fi or Buy Me a Coffee: support first, light shop
Ko-fi has no monthly cost; in its Free mode one-off tips carry 0% and shop, membership and commission sales 5%, with processor fees on top (Ko-fi fees). Buy Me a Coffee charges a 5% platform fee per transaction with no monthly fee (BMAC fees). Fits: creators whose income is mostly support with a few products. Not for: course or funnel businesses.
Community platforms
If the reason to leave is that Stan's community features are too light, compare Circle, Skool, Mighty Networks and Podia in online community platforms for creators.
Your own site with embedded checkout
A one-page site on your own domain, with a checkout from a payment or store tool embedded. Fits: creators who want ownership and design control. Not for: anyone who wants one tool to handle everything. Options are compared in link-in-bio tools for creators.
One-off paid expertise
If what you actually sell on Stan is a quick personal consultation, a paid-question tool can carry that one job alongside your store. PayDM is one example: someone pays to send one private question and gets one personal written reply. PayDM does not replace a storefront: it does not sell digital products, courses, memberships or checkout funnels. Keep Stan or another store for those. Details on PayDM for Creators.
Fee scenarios: flat vs percentage
Because Gumroad adds $0.50 per order, the number of orders matters, not only revenue. The table uses three illustrative months and shows platform fees and subscriptions only, on monthly billing. It leaves out payment processing (which all options charge separately except Gumroad's Discover sales), tax, refunds and currency.
| Option | Fee model | 10 orders × $15 ($150) | 20 orders × $25 ($500) | 40 orders × $50 ($2,000) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stan Creator | $29/mo, 0% | $29.00 | $29.00 | $29.00 |
| Stan Creator, annual | $300/yr = $25/mo, 0% | $25.00 | $25.00 | $25.00 |
| Gumroad, direct sales | 10% + $0.50 per order | $20.00 | $60.00 | $220.00 |
| Beacons Free | 9% | $13.50 | $45.00 | $180.00 |
| Beacons Creator Plus | $30/mo, 0% | $30.00 | $30.00 | $30.00 |
| Ko-fi shop, Free mode | 5% | $7.50 | $25.00 | $100.00 |
| Podia Mover | $49/mo + 5% | $56.50 | $74.00 | $149.00 |
What the arithmetic shows:
- At $150 a month, every percentage option is cheaper than Stan's $29.
- Beacons Free (9%) matches Stan Creator at about $322 of monthly sales; Ko-fi's 5% at $580.
- Gumroad's crossover depends on order size: at $25 orders, Stan is cheaper from 10 orders ($250 of sales) a month.
No single break-even number. The crossover moves with order count, price and plan, and the options do different jobs: Gumroad's fee includes Merchant-of-Record tax handling, Stan includes bookings and courses, Ko-fi is mainly a support page. Use the table to see the shape, then plug in your own monthly orders and average price.
Migration-cost checklist
| What moves | What to check |
|---|---|
| Products and files | Re-upload every file; re-create descriptions, prices and thumbnails |
| Courses | Lessons, progress and existing students' access on the new platform |
| Customer data | Export buyer and email lists you are allowed to use; check consent for marketing |
| Recurring subscriptions | Existing subscribers usually have to re-subscribe; plan a notice and a grace period |
| Bookings | Future appointments and calendar links |
| Links | Bio links, pinned posts, email footers, QR codes, old posts that point to stan.store |
| Email and funnels | Lead magnets, automated flows and broadcasts on Creator Pro |
| Affiliates | Your affiliates' links and commission tracking |
| Domain and analytics | Redirects, ad pixels, conversion history you lose when you leave |
| Buyer expectations | Where past buyers re-download files and get support |
If the list is long and the fee saving is small, the cheaper move is usually to stay.
Stay or switch: decision tree
- Can you name one specific reason Stan no longer fits? If not, stay; the problem may be demand or distribution.
- Is the reason cost? Compare your actual monthly orders and price against the fee scenarios. Above the crossover, staying is cheaper.
- Is it a missing feature? Check whether Creator Pro has it before leaving. If not, choose the alternative built for that feature: tax handling, community depth, custom domain or a full site.
- Is it a different business model? Support, community or one-off expertise each have dedicated tools; you may add one next to Stan rather than replace it.
- Is the migration cost lower than a year of the benefit? If yes, switch, and keep Stan running until links and subscribers have moved.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to Stan Store?
Yes, if you accept a per-sale fee: Gumroad, Beacons Free and Ko-fi have no monthly cost. Stan itself has no free plan.
